THE ORION ARTEFACT: DOCTOR WHO FANFIC OR TELEVISION FROM AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE?

In the 1970s Doctor Who became one my “life-saver shows” -- something that I had to turn on to keep myself sane – oddly by entering weird science-fictional worlds that some might see as insane.

Eventually the need to dive deeper into that spiraling time tunnel grew so intense that I had to write “The Orion Artefact” – an adventure for the then Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) and his amazing companion Ace (Sophie Aldred). Ever optimistic (and possibly insane) I sent my script treatment to the BBC.

My story did not get produced but the Story Editor Andrew Cartmel sent me one of the nicest rejection letters ever! (You can read it in the attachment). Mr. Cartmel is now the author of The Vinyl Detective novels (among many other things) and I strongly recommend you check them out. https://titanbooks.com/creators/andrew-cartmel/

I’ve always wondered what if my story had been produced?

And so…

...with the aid of the incredible talents of illustrator Emily O’Brien (Instagram emily_hllktty) and graphic designer Gabrielle Lasporte (gabriellelasporte.com) I present what is essentially fan fiction in this world but possibly Big Time Television in some alternate universe.

PS - please keep in mind that I wrote this way back in 1988 so some of the societal and technological references are quite dated. Others (mostly the scary ones) are not.
